Description

Overview:

Project Engineer with a main contractor on the Anglian Water framework — design-focused role within the water sector delivering wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects under NEC contracts. You’ll manage the design lifecycle from feasibility and concept through to construction-issue drawings, coordinate multi-discipline teams and consultants, and provide technical support through construction and handover.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead design development from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction-issue drawings.

  • Develop conceptual solutions following root-cause analysis and ensure designs meet client requirements and statutory standards.

  • Manage production and control of design deliverables: reports, drawings, specifications and schedules.

  • Act as the primary interface between client, consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams to ensure alignment with NEC contract obligations.

  • Create and maintain P6 design programmes, attend programme reviews and support change control, early warnings and risk management.

  • Raise, manage and resolve RFIs and technical queries during design and construction; perform constructability reviews.

  • Prepare and support handover documentation including O&M manuals and health & safety files.

  • Maintain project logs, registers and design-related communications; support commercial and contract activities where required.

  • Ensure quality of pre-construction surveys, site investigations and deliverables to support ‘right-first-time’ delivery.

  • Discharge CDM 2015 duties in the pre-construction phase and ensure compliance with company HSE procedures; report incidents and manage HSE risks.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians; attend design and project progress meetings with stakeholders.

  • Contribute practical continuous-improvement suggestions to improve processes and delivery outcomes.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ICA or related engineering discipline — or demonstrable industry experience.

  • Proficient with Office 365 and common engineering workflows.

  • Solid understanding of health & safety regulations and safe working practices (CDM).

  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate multi-party design activities.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with WIMES standards.

  • Experience in water & wastewater delivery.

  • Programme/schedule management experience (P6 desirable).

  • Commercial/contract awareness and BIM understanding.

  • PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification; SMSTS or NEBOSH.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, company pension and life assurance.

  • Private medical and profit/share schemes (where applicable).

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and loyalty days.

  • Flexible benefits (salary sacrifice) and Employee Assistance Programme.

  • Company vehicle/green car scheme or allowance (role dependent).

  • Ongoing training, leadership development and clear progression opportunities.

  • Volunteering time and long-service recognition.
