Description

Main Purpose of the Role

The Senior Multi-Utilities Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for utility projects. This includes analysing project plans, determining material and labour needs, gathering supplier quotes, and creating comprehensive budget proposals. The role also involves identifying potential efficiencies, especially when groundworks are included in the scope.


Key Activities

  • Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to assess scope.
  • Evaluate tender enquiries and follow up with clients for missing details.
  • Source material costs through internal procurement and external suppliers.
  • Analyse site investigation reports for early identification of issues.
  • Conduct site visits to validate tender documentation and site conditions.
  • Measure and quantify works from drawings and compile Bills of Quantities.
  • Ensure estimates align with client specifications and current market rates.
  • Maintain consistency and clarity in tender submissions.
  • Manage changes to scope or drawings post-submission.
  • Lead and support a team of estimators.

  • Deliver accurate project cost estimates aligned with budget and scope.
  • Collaborate effectively with Procurement, Operations, and Regional teams.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve bidding processes.
  • Ensure project gross margins are maintained.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential:

  • At least 18 months of experience as a Utilities Estimator.
  • HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, ideally in Power Distribution.
  • Experience in gas, electricity, or multi-utility projects.

Desirable:

  • Degree in Project Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications.

Experience

  • Proven ability to estimate complex, high-value projects.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of utilities and construction processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and calculate quantities accurately.
  • Skilled in using estimating software and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communicator.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience using Evaluate Technology system.
