- Description
An exciting opportunity to lead a nationally significant, multi-year gas infrastructure upgrade focused on reducing emissions and supporting the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon energy network. This four-year Design & Build project involves the installation of a new, low-emission gas turbine–driven compressor train at a critical Above Ground Installation (AGI) site within the national gas transmission system.
The first two years will focus on design, offering a hybrid working arrangement. The final two years transition to full-time site-based delivery, overseeing construction and commissioning. This is a strategically important project aligned with the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD), playing a key role in futureproofing UK energy supply and improving air quality.
Responsibilities:
-
Lead full project lifecycle delivery from early-stage design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
-
Manage design partner deliverables, ensuring alignment with project programme and technical specifications.
-
Oversee governance documentation including risk registers, programme schedules, commercial reporting, and approvals.
-
Maintain strong stakeholder engagement across engineering, commercial, client and regulatory interfaces.
-
Select, appoint, and manage subcontractors to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality delivery of civil, mechanical, electrical and EC&I scopes.
-
Monitor project financials, ensuring cost control, forecasting accuracy, and achievement of target margins.
-
Promote and enforce high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance across all project phases.
-
Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and ensure proactive management of project risks and opportunities.
-
Travel to design offices and project sites across the UK as required.
Qualifications:
-
10+ years’ experience delivering major projects in the gas transmission or AGI sector, ideally with compressor station involvement.
-
In-depth knowledge of AGI systems, gas turbines, pipeline interfaces, and process safety standards.
-
Proven track record managing infrastructure upgrades in live, regulated gas environments.
-
Experience working under CDM 2015 regulations, acting in Principal Contractor and Designer capacities.
-
Competent in commercial management of D&B contracts – cost/value reporting, change control and programme forecasting.
-
Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management and technical reporting capabilities.
-
Full, clean UK driving licence with flexibility to travel nationally.
Benefits:
-
Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
-
Hybrid working during design phase
-
Strategic leadership role on a nationally significant emissions-reduction project
-
Defined progression opportunities within a high-performing, engineer-led delivery environment
