Quantity Surveyor – Highways / Infrastructure
A leading UK principal contractor is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major highways infrastructure scheme. The project involves a new carriageway with associated junctions, earthworks, drainage, and structures, offering the opportunity to take a key commercial role on a high-profile civil engineering programme.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for the commercial management of key packages, ensuring effective cost control, contract compliance, and accurate financial forecasting throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with operational and engineering teams, you will play a key role in driving value and supporting successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with site health, safety, and commercial procedures
- Prepare, negotiate, and manage subcontract documentation, including terms, pricing, and programme requirements
- Administer subcontract packages, including valuations, variations, change control, and compensation events
- Issue contractual notices in line with contract requirements
- Prepare, submit, and agree monthly applications and commercial submissions
- Liaise with operational and engineering teams to ensure accurate cost capture and record keeping
- Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), budgets, and forecast updates
- Monitor project performance and provide clear commercial reporting
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (NEC or similar preferred)
- Experience in commercial management within highways or civil engineering projects
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, and CVR reporting
- Proficient in Excel and commercial management systems (e.g. CEMAR, Oracle or similar)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Professional membership (RICS or CIOB) desirable
- Experience working on large infrastructure projects or multiple schemes
- Valid CSCS card
