Overview

We are representing a top-tier contractor seeking a dynamic Utilities Engineering Director to lead the strategic and technical direction of their utilities division. This is a pivotal executive role, responsible for shaping engineering delivery across major infrastructure projects in water, electricity, and gas.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will influence business performance, drive innovation, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead high-performing engineering teams to deliver excellence across UK utility networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Set and execute the engineering strategy for utility projects, aligning with business goals and client requirements.

  • Operational Oversight: Direct multi-disciplinary teams across design, construction, and maintenance phases of complex infrastructure projects.

  • Regulatory & Technical Assurance: Ensure robust compliance with industry standards and regulatory frameworks across all utility operations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Operate at senior level with clients, regulators, and internal executives to resolve high-impact issues and influence project outcomes.

  • Business Improvement: Develop and embed engineering governance, best practices, and performance metrics to drive continual improvement and commercial success.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or a relevant technical field.

  • Chartered status (CEng) or Fellowship of an appropriate engineering institution preferred.

  • Extensive leadership experience in utility infrastructure (NERS, GIRS, WIRS).

  • Deep knowledge of regulatory standards and the competitive utilities landscape.

  • Demonstrable experience directing large-scale, high-value projects from feasibility through to close-out.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
