Our client, a regional civil engineering firms based in Stockton-on-Tees is looking for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor Estimator to join their growing team. As the Trainee Quantity Surveyor, you will work alongside colleagues to price a variety of jobs from the existing client base from the initial inquiry through all costing stages to completion. You’ll learn about the job, on the job, whilst we support you through further studies, so you’ll gain qualifications as well as work experience and skills.
Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for estimating new inquiries.
- Managing ongoing costs of live projects through to completion.
- Producing and sending inquiries to subcontractors inviting them to tender and engage with the supply chain.
- Produce bill of quantity/activity schedule for payment purposes.
- Monitor and control income and expenditure on contracts.
- Attend and contribute to financial and progress meetings with the client and subcontractors when required.
- Provide advice and support to site teams and colleagues.
What do we need from you:
- Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages.
- Preparing bills of quantities and schedules of works for pricing.
- Preparing and sending out Subcontract inquiries.
- Subcontract comparison and preparation of subcontract agreements.
- Attending, contributing to, and taking minutes of meetings as required.
- Preparing Valuations with Clients, agreeing on amounts for payment, and ensuring invoices are prepared and issued.
- Re-measuring work using site measurement and measurement from drawings.
- Re-measurement of subcontract applications and processing subcontract payments.
- Informing Subcontractors of Contract variations.
What you'll need
- Nat 4/GCSE (4-9) in Maths and English.
- The ability to work on own initiative and demonstrate a methodical approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work as part of a team and under pressure.
