Description

Are you an experienced Commercial Manager with a strong background in engineering, infrastructure, utilities or construction?

Are you confident reviewing and negotiating contracts, advising project teams and managing commercial risk across live projects?

We’re working with a growing UK engineering and infrastructure group delivering specialist design, consultancy, project management and construction services across the utilities, energy and infrastructure sectors.

As the business continues to expand, they are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to strengthen their commercial capability and work closely with Directors, Project Managers and operational teams across the Group.

This is a hands-on role where your commercial judgement will have a direct impact on project performance, profitability and risk management.

The Role

You’ll provide commercial leadership across a range of engineering and construction projects, supporting teams from tender through to delivery and final account.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing, negotiating and advising on NEC3, NEC4 ECC, NEC PSC, JCT and bespoke contracts.

  • Identifying contractual risks and recommending practical, commercially balanced solutions.

  • Reviewing and negotiating Z Clauses and bespoke amendments.

  • Drafting and reviewing subcontracts, collateral warranties and other commercial agreements.

  • Supporting tender and bid teams with contractual and commercial reviews.

  • Providing proactive commercial support to Project Managers throughout project delivery.

  • Managing and advising on Compensation Events, variations, change control and claims.

  • Reviewing CVRs, forecasts and project margins, challenging assumptions where appropriate.

  • Supporting final account negotiations and maximising contractual entitlements.

  • Advising Directors and project teams on commercial and contractual risk.

  • Supporting the development of commercial procedures, reporting and best practice across the Group.

  • Providing practical commercial guidance and coaching to Project Managers and engineers.

About You

You’ll be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record within engineering, utilities, infrastructure or construction.

You should have:

  • Significant commercial management experience within a relevant sector.

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4, particularly ECC and PSC.

  • Experience with Z Clauses and bespoke contractual amendments.

  • Proven experience reviewing and negotiating contracts.

  • Strong knowledge of Compensation Events, change control, claims and final accounts.

  • Experience supporting Project Managers on live projects.

  • A strong understanding of CVRs, forecasting, margins and commercial performance.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • The commercial judgement to balance contractual risk with wider business opportunities.

Desirable: JCT experience, a Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management/Construction Law qualification, or MRICS (or equivalent).

What’s on Offer?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing engineering and infrastructure group where the Commercial Manager will have genuine influence over commercial strategy, project performance and the continued development of the business.

You’ll have the flexibility to work from the Ringwood office or from home, with some travel required to regional offices and project sites.

If you’re looking for a role where you can influence senior decision-makers, support live projects and help shape commercial best practice across a growing group, we’d be keen to hear from you.
