Description

Senior Quantity Surveyor

London (Various Locations)

Step into a role where your commercial expertise directly shapes the delivery of essential UK infrastructure.

A major UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role in delivering complex, high-impact projects across long-term frameworks and standalone works. From fast-paced reactive maintenance to multi-million-pound capital programmes, you’ll be commercially responsible across a diverse and ever-moving project portfolio. With a strong self-delivery model and long-standing client partnerships, this is a business where your decisions genuinely influence performance, profitability, and project success. This is a business built on scale, stability, and delivery excellence—trusted to deliver critical assets across water, energy, transport, and the built environment.

If you’re looking for a role with serious long-term security, variety, and the chance to progress within a high-performing commercial team, this is a standout opportunity.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll work closely with operational, delivery, and commercial teams to drive strong financial control across a portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects ranging from £200k to £10m+.

You’ll take ownership of commercial performance from start to finish—managing risk, maximising value, and ensuring robust contract administration across frameworks, maintenance works, capital schemes, and emergency response projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

Commercial Leadership

  • Lead monthly CVRs, cost/value reporting, and financial forecasting
  • Drive cost control, cash flow management, and margin improvement
  • Own valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
  • Identify risks, variations, and commercial opportunities early
  • Support site teams with real-time commercial insight and decision-making

Subcontract & Supply Chain Management

  • Manage procurement, negotiation, and subcontractor performance
  • Oversee payments, variations, and final account settlements
  • Build strong, performance-driven supply chain relationships
  • Ensure commercial compliance and contract governance across packages

Contract Administration (NEC Focus)

  • Administer NEC contracts (with exposure to IChemE advantageous)
  • Manage compensation events, change control, and claims
  • Ensure contractual accuracy and protect commercial position
  • Support effective risk management across all project stages

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver accurate and timely commercial reporting
  • Maintain high standards across internal processes and governance
  • Contribute to commercial best practice and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with teams to improve efficiency and profitability

About You

Essential

  • Proven experience in Quantity Surveying within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, or construction
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Confident managing subcontractors, forecasting, and cost control
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable working across multiple live projects simultaneously

Desirable

  • Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • MRICS or working towards chartership
  • Experience within a self-delivery environment
  • CSCS card
  • Exposure to water, rail, utilities, or infrastructure frameworks

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and full benefits package
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Private healthcare options
  • Pension and life assurance
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Long-term pipeline of secured UK infrastructure work
  • Clear progression pathways and ongoing professional development
  • Supportive, high-performing commercial environment
  • Opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure programmes
