Description

Overview:

We are working on behalf of an exciting main contractor delivering major water and wastewater schemes across the Severn Trent Water framework. This is an excellent opportunity for a Principal Civil Engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of essential infrastructure projects that improve network resilience, operational efficiency, and environmental performance.

The role will suit an experienced civil engineering professional with strong water sector knowledge who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through to construction and commissioning. You will join a well-established team with long-term framework security, a collaborative working culture, and genuine opportunities for progression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the design, planning, and delivery of civil engineering works across water and wastewater projects.
  • Provide design leadership and technical guidance to ensure schemes are fit for purpose, compliant with current legislation, and aligned to industry standards.
  • Work closely with commercial, operational, construction, and design teams to develop safe, efficient, and practical solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with the client and project stakeholders, adopting a collaborative one-team approach.
  • Manage the integration of civil design with other disciplines and support the production of associated documentation.
  • Act as technical checker on project deliverables and carry out technical reviews across the team.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve delivery, including standardised designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools.
  • Carry out site reviews to confirm buildability and ensure effective integration with existing systems.
  • Support the development of the civil engineering team through coaching, mentoring, and resource coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a relevant professional institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ civil engineering experience, including hydraulic and concrete structure design.
  • Strong experience delivering high-quality outputs in line with quality, safety, and design standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to sites across the operational region.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Strong training and development support with a clear progression path.
  • Enhanced employer pension contribution.
  • 26 days AL with option to purchase, sell, and carry over.
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance, critical illness cover, and health screening options.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave.
  • Paid professional institution subscriptions.
  • Gym membership discounts across the UK.

This is a great opportunity for a Principal Civil Engineer looking to make a real impact within the water sector on a long-term, secure framework.

Candidates must have full eligibility to live and work in the UK as this role does not offer sponsorship.
