Our client is an established and growing construction contractor delivering high-quality commercial projects across the North East. Their portfolio includes office developments, retail units, industrial facilities, mixed-use schemes, and refurbishments. They pride themselves on professionalism, collaboration, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join their team and support the successful delivery of our commercial construction projects.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the commercial and contractual elements of assigned projects. Working closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients, you will ensure financial efficiency and effective cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, manage, and monitor project budgets and cost plans
- Conduct cost analysis and procurement of subcontract packages
- Prepare tender and contract documents
- Manage valuations, variations, and interim payment applications
- Negotiate and agree subcontractor accounts
- Monitor project cash flow and financial performance
- Provide accurate financial reporting to senior management
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
- Support risk management and value engineering initiatives
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
- Proven experience working for a main contractor on commercial build projects
- Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT/NEC)
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant estimating/commercial software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Desirable
- Professional membership (e.g., RICS or CIOB)
- Experience on projects valued £5m+
- Experience in design & build contracts
