- Description
Overview:
Recruiting a Project Manager for a Principal Contractor to lead delivery of multiple civil engineering packages on a major regional water programme on the Severn Trent Water AMP 8 Framework. The role is commercial and operationally focused — you will deliver safe, on-programme, cost-controlled construction works (including deep shaft/tank construction and combined sewer overflow works) that increase storage capacity, reduce flood risk and improve local river health. This multi-site scheme is a multi-million pound investment and includes large storage shafts (c. 20m diameter × 24m deep, adding roughly 5,200m³ of overflow capacity).
Key Responsibilities:
-
Own project delivery from design to completion for multiple live packages: programme, quality, cost and HSE.
-
Produce and maintain forecasts, commercial reporting and monthly project performance packs for the Contracts/Operations lead.
-
Develop and manage construction programmes, review progress and re-sequence works to meet milestones.
-
Manage site teams, subcontractors and specialist suppliers; chair weekly site meetings and capture actions/decisions.
-
Ensure delivery of technical solutions that are safe, buildable and cost-efficient; close out technical queries and manage variations.
-
Prepare and maintain Project Plans, RAMS, SWMPs, ITPs, QA files and ensure timely submission of as-builts and O&M manuals.
-
Lead stakeholder engagement with client representatives, framework partners, designers and statutory bodies to maintain positive relationships.
-
Drive commercial tension: identify savings, challenge costs and prepare estimates for additional work outside target cost.
-
Support estimating and bid activity for new framework opportunities and chase local prospects.
-
Embed HS&E leadership on site: coach teams, allocate HSE duties, deliver briefings and ensure subcontractor compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements (NRSWA/HAUC/Chapter 8 standards where applicable).
Qualifications & experience:
Essential
-
Degree / HNC / HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent vocational qualification (NVQ L5/6) or demonstrable experience.
-
Proven Project Manager experience delivering civils/wastewater infrastructure on framework contracts.
-
Strong commercial capability: forecasting, cost control and value reporting.
-
Experience of deep excavations/shaft/tank construction or large storage structures and combined sewer overflow works (or equivalent).
-
Competent in programme and risk management; experience with Primavera P6 or equivalent.
-
Knowledge of relevant contract forms and mechanisms (NEC desirable), CDM, design management and change control.
-
CSCS Manager’s card, SMSTS and NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
-
Excellent communicator with proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and resolve design/technical issues.
Desirable
-
Chartered engineer status (CEng / MICE).
-
Familiarity with JCT forms and local permitting/consenting processes.
-
Previous experience working on multi-site wastewater improvement schemes or stormwater storage projects.
Benefits:
-
Competitive salary and company pension.
-
Life assurance and private medical cover.
-
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (and loyalty days).
-
Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.
-
Flexible benefits via salary sacrifice, plus car/green car scheme or allowance depending on role.
-
Leadership & management training, regular appraisals and career development support.
-
Volunteer time and long-service recognition.
