Overview
We’re recruiting a Site Engineer to join an exciting main contractor delivering a major highways package in the Leiston area - a permanent link road of approx. 6.5km worth £100 million+ that will form a key piece of local infrastructure supporting a large energy infrastructure programme. This is a hands-on, field-facing role reporting to the Senior Engineer and working across setting-out, survey, QA and day-to-day engineering control.
Key Responsibilities
-
Deliver accurate setting-out and control surveying across earthworks, drainage and highway elements (Level, EDM, GPS).
-
Complete daily site diaries, photographic records and material reconciliation to programme and QA standards.
-
Calibrate and maintain survey equipment; carry out as-built and verification surveys and produce 2D/3D site sketches.
-
Coordinate engineering information with operatives, subcontractors and the site office; issue basic technical clarifications.
-
Support quality and compliance activities — maintain records, assist inspections and close out snags.
-
Contribute to site planning, waste control and continuous improvement; mentor junior engineers and technicians.
-
Maintain a safe working environment and apply site H&S procedures at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
-
HND / Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying or related discipline (or demonstrable equivalent experience).
-
Proven experience in highways or heavy civils site engineering (setting-out, as-built survey, material checks).
-
Competent with Level, EDM and GPS surveying equipment and associated data workflows.
-
CSCS card (or equivalent), full UK driving licence. SMSTS / SSSTS and CIRIA/site safety qualifications are advantageous.
-
Strong IT literacy — Office 365, basic CAD or survey office tools for producing sketches and record drawings.
-
Confident communicator, organised, proactive and able to work in a busy site environment.
-
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Benefits
-
Competitive salary (market related) and generous holiday allowance with buy-additional holiday option.
-
Pension scheme and employee share plans (where applicable).
-
Private medical scheme options and 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
-
Cycle to Work scheme, corporate discounts and paid professional membership relevant to role.
-
Career development and on-site support with structured supervision and mentoring.
-
Subsistence / accommodation support - subsistence paid for those required to work away from home to cover overnight accommodation costs (subject to company policy).
Why apply?
Join a high-profile highways delivery team on a long-running regional scheme - practical, varied engineering work with clear progression and a strong benefits package. If you’re a hands-on Site Engineer who takes pride in accuracy, safety and getting the job done, we want to hear from you.
