Description

We are seeking a Design Manager to coordinate and support design partners in delivering FEED, Optioneering Studies, Conceptual and Detailed Designs for our long-term UK gas frameworks. Working closely with the Framework Director, you will lead the design process, ensuring compliance, quality, and timely approvals to enable successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage external design teams, monitoring capability, capacity, and performance.

  • Oversee the full design process from concept to detailed design, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with programme, budget, and quality requirements.

  • Chair design management meetings, ensuring designs meet regulations, client specifications, and internal assurance requirements.

  • Manage budgets, schedules, and change control processes throughout design development.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders including engineers, consultants, and design houses to ensure effective communication and integrated solutions.

  • Review and coordinate designs, ensuring buildability and delivery team requirements are incorporated.

  • Resolve design issues during project lifecycle, including managing RFIs/TQs, and share lessons learned across projects

Essential

  • Strong civil and mechanical background with thorough knowledge of the onshore UK gas sector.

  • Ability to review drawings, identify buildability issues, and assess technical risks.

  • Experience managing the design process, budgets, programmes, and compliance.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proven ability to prioritise, influence, and motivate design teams.

  • Knowledge of construction methodology, sequencing, and pre-construction design activities.

  • Problem-solving, decision-making, and risk management capabilities.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with National Gas, Cadent, or other Gas Networks.

  • Project and process management qualifications.

  • Strong written and verbal reporting skills.
