- Description
Overview
An exciting opportunity for a UK-based engineer to relocate to Australia and join a high-performing transmission development team delivering critical high-voltage (HV) infrastructure across the national electricity network.
This position is ideal for an experienced Primary Engineer or Substation Design Engineer who wants to play a key role in shaping the future of energy — supporting the development and delivery of major grid-scale projects that will run for the next 10–15 years. You’ll be involved in early-stage engineering, technical assurance, and stakeholder collaboration from concept through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead development of scopes and specifications for both brownfield and greenfield HV substation projects.
-
Provide engineering assurance on protection, control, and primary plant designs.
-
Carry out technical reviews focused on constructability, maintainability, operability, and safety.
-
Support schedule planning, estimation, and commercial input for internal and external customer projects.
-
Influence design outcomes, technical standards, staging, and commissioning approaches.
-
Liaise with project managers, estimators, delivery partners, and customers to ensure aligned project delivery.
-
Contribute to the mentoring of junior engineers and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
-
10+ years’ experience in HV substation or transmission network engineering (132kV and above preferred).
-
Detailed knowledge of substation layouts, plant specification, and associated design principles.
-
Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
-
Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to non-engineers and project stakeholders.
-
UK Chartered or Incorporated status desirable. Registration as a Professional Engineer (RPEV) in Victoria required — full support will be provided to convert UK qualifications.
-
Full driving licence required.
Relocation & Benefits
-
Visa sponsorship provided for successful UK candidates.
-
Assistance with relocation costs including flights and initial accommodation.
-
Long term secure work forecasted across major infrastructure programmes.
-
Full support to transfer UK qualifications and training into Australian equivalents (e.g., RPEV).
-
Be part of a supportive team with access to learning, mentoring, and career development pathways.
-
Join an organisation committed to innovation, sustainability, and delivering long-term energy solutions for Australia.
