- Description
We’re recruiting on behalf of a top-tier contractor working on the Northumbrian Water framework. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Environmental Advisor to support major infrastructure projects by providing expert environmental guidance from tender stage through to project delivery.
As the Environmental Advisor, you’ll ensure compliance, drive sustainability goals, and embed environmental best practices across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of the company’s environmental strategy across all projects.

Provide expert Environmental Advisor input into tenders, project awards, and contract negotiations.

Act as the primary contact for environmental matters across the project lifecycle.

Lead on environmental & sustainability performance, including achieving net zero targets and reporting metrics.

Support and lead investigations into environmental incidents, identifying root causes and lessons learned.

Influence and challenge construction methods to promote environmental good practice.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement and environmental awareness through behavioural coaching.

Liaise with stakeholders, including the HSE, Environment Agency, and local authorities.

Support compliance with CDM regulations relevant to environmental aspects in design and construction.

Conduct environmental audits, reviews, and inspections across project sites.

Review contractor competence in environmental management and identify training needs.

Report on environmental KPIs and contribute to internal performance data collection and analysis.
Candidate Profile:
Essential:
-
Proven experience in a similar Environmental Advisor role within the water or utilities sector.

Recognised environmental qualification.
-
Strong knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and legislation.

Full UK driving licence.

EUSR SHEA Water certification.
Desirable:
-
Membership of a professional environmental or engineering body (IEMA, CIWEM, etc.) to incorporated or chartered level.

NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent in Environmental or Construction Safety.

ISO 9001 /14001/18001 auditor training.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence all levels of an organisation.
