Freelance Site Engineer – Civil Engineering

Location: Berwick-upon-Tweed
Contract Duration: 6–12 Months
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Rate: Competitive Day Rate (DOE)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to join a major civil engineering project based in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of infrastructure works, including roads, drainage, sewers, and associated civil engineering packages. This is an excellent long-term freelance opportunity with an expected duration of 6–12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

• Setting out and surveying works in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
• Managing and maintaining accurate site records.
• Producing and reviewing as-built drawings and survey data.
• Ensuring works are delivered to the required quality, programme, and safety standards.
• Coordinating with site management, subcontractors, and project teams.
• Conducting quality inspections and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
• Assisting with planning and sequencing of works.
• Identifying and resolving technical issues on site.
• Supporting the commercial and project management teams with progress reporting and documentation.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer within the civil engineering sector.
• Strong background in roads, drainage, sewers, utilities, and infrastructure projects.
• Proficient in setting out using GPS and robotic total station equipment.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• CSCS Card.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
