Senior Quantity Surveyor – Infrastructure & Highways

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take a leading commercial role on a major UK infrastructure project. This high-profile highways scheme includes new carriageway construction, junction improvements, earthworks, drainage, and structural works, offering the chance to make a real impact on a nationally significant programme.

Whether operating on this flagship project or supporting a portfolio of infrastructure schemes, you'll play a key role in driving commercial performance, cost control, and contract management throughout project delivery.

Joining a well-established and forward-thinking infrastructure contractor, you'll benefit from a strong pipeline of secured work across highways, water, utilities, and wider civil engineering frameworks. The business is known for its collaborative culture, commitment to professional development, and long-term career opportunities.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial management of key project elements, ensuring robust financial control and contractual compliance from inception through to completion.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting and supporting a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture across project teams
  • Leading subcontract procurement, negotiation, and package management activities
  • Administering contracts and ensuring commercial compliance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Managing change control processes, including Compensation Events, variations, and associated negotiations
  • Preparing, submitting, and agreeing monthly applications, valuations, and final accounts
  • Producing detailed cost plans, forecasts, and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
  • Monitoring subcontractor performance and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • Issuing contractual notices to clients and supply chain partners where required
  • Working closely with operational and engineering teams to maintain accurate records and reporting
  • Supporting commercial reviews, progress meetings, and risk management activities
  • Providing commercial input into bids, tenders, and future work opportunities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects, ideally within highways, water, utilities, or related sectors
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, with NEC experience highly desirable
  • Experience managing subcontract packages and change control processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems such as CEMAR, Oracle, or similar platforms
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Membership of, or progression towards, MCIOB or MRICS (desirable)
  • A valid CSCS card

Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a business delivering some of the UK's most important infrastructure programmes. With a strong order book and long-term visibility of work, you'll enjoy both stability and genuine opportunities for progression.

You'll benefit from:

  • A secure pipeline of major infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to large-scale, complex highways and civil engineering schemes
  • Opportunities to work across multiple infrastructure sectors, including utilities and water
  • Clear career progression pathways and structured professional development
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment
  • Flexible and agile working arrangements where appropriate

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
  • Generous annual leave entitlement, with the option to purchase additional days
  • Company pension scheme
  • Private medical options
  • Monthly subsistence allowance (where applicable)
  • Professional membership fees paid
  • Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 wellbeing support
