Freelance Quantity Surveyor – Housing

Location: Gateshead

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support the procurement and cost management of roads and sewers packages on new-build housing sites.

Role Overview:
You will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process for groundworks and infrastructure (roads, sewers, and associated works), ensuring best value, compliance with specification, and timely delivery. This role is project-focused and offers flexibility for a freelance professional who can work independently while reporting to the wider commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare tender documents and manage the full procurement cycle for roads and sewers packages.

• Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain and evaluate quotations.

• Negotiate and place orders/contracts in line with project budgets.

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and site requirements.

• Provide accurate cost reporting, cashflow forecasts, and budget monitoring for infrastructure works.

• Work closely with the technical and site teams to manage changes, resolve issues, and deliver value.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the residential housing sector.

• Strong background in roads, sewers, and infrastructure procurement.

• Excellent negotiation, cost control, and commercial management skills.

• Ability to work independently and deliver results to tight deadlines.

• Strong communication skills and confidence in dealing with subcontractors and stakeholders.
