- Description
Our client is a fast-growing, privately held building contractor operating across the North East. The company delivers high-quality refurbishment, maintenance, and extension works on both domestic and commercial properties. They specialise in planned and reactive maintenance, property repairs, small works, civil and fencing work, and full-scale upgrades, including gym refurbs, cladding, and envelope improvements. Due to continual strong growth, they are now looking to expand their team and are looking for a construction director to join the team.
Role Overview:
As Construction Director, you'll lead multi-project delivery across social housing refurbishment, small works, construction repairs, and renewal projects—including building envelope and cladding upgrades. You’ll be responsible for driving quality, safety, budget controls, and client satisfaction while scaling the business. Based in North Shields, you'll travel to sites throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Oversee the full lifecycle of social housing refurbishment programmes and small-scale construction works (planned/reactive), ensuring high standards and timely delivery.
- Portfolio Oversight: Manage multiple simultaneous projects—such as cladding renewal, fencing, groundworks, and property maintenance—maximising efficiency and quality across the region.
- Team & Subcontractor Management: Lead in-house trades and external squads (e.g., fencing, groundworks, fit-out), ensuring consistent supervision, compliance, and delivery.
- Safety & Quality Assurance: Embed robust H&S practices and quality processes aligned with high company standards.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with clients, local authorities, housing associations, and suppliers—reporting progress, managing expectations, and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Financial & Commercial Management: Drive commercial performance by managing budgets, bids, tenders, contract negotiations, and cost control.
- Operational Excellence: Promote continuous improvement in construction methods, operational efficiencies, and sustainability best practices.
- Reporting & Strategy: Provide comprehensive updates on project status, risk profile, and financial health directly to the Managing Director. Support growth strategy, including expansion into commercial and public-sector contracts as volumes increase.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven senior leadership in construction—particularly social housing refurbishment, planned/reactive maintenance, building envelope works (e.g., cladding), and small works.
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent contract and budget management experience.
- Skilled in managing teams and subcontractors across multiple trades (Fencing, Groundworks, Fit-outs).
- Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality, compliance-led projects that meet client expectations.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and leadership abilities.
- Degree or professional qualification in Construction, Project Management, or related field (e.g., HNC, CIOB).
- Valid UK driving licence; flexibility required to travel across North East sites.
Why Join:
- Join a dynamic and reputable contractor serving domestic and commercial clients across the North East.
- Lead a growing business that prides itself on small works excellence and community impact.
- Play a pivotal role in shaping company growth, operational quality, and service expansion into new sectors.
- Competitive salary.
- Car allowance.
- 5% pension contribution.
- 25 day holiday plus bank holidays.
