This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic and innovative environment that champions skills development, sustainability, and cutting-edge design.

Position Overview:
As a Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the design of a new build commercial scheme which serves as a critical resource for skill-building in the construction and engineering industries. You will manage design projects from concept to completion, ensuring that the centre’s spaces, facilities, and learning environments are optimized for functionality, aesthetics, and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of the commercial unit, ensuring all spaces align with the operational requirements of training programs, as well as the aesthetic and brand standards of the company.
  • Manage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including project managers, architects, contractors, and trainers, to develop design solutions that meet both practical and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the creation of innovative training facilities, including classrooms, workshops, and simulation areas, to ensure they are state-of-the-art and conducive to hands-on learning.
  • Ensure that designs meet health, safety, accessibility, and sustainability standards in line with the company's corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise the preparation of design documentation, drawings, and specifications.
  • Manage the design process from concept through to completion, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of designers, ensuring that all projects are executed with excellence and innovation.
  • Continuously monitor and review industry best practices and incorporate them into design strategies to maintain the company’s competitive edge.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in design management within the construction or built environment sector, with a focus on commercial or educational projects.
  • Strong understanding of the construction process and ability to manage design through various project phases (planning, execution, and completion).
  • Experience managing design teams, with the ability to lead, inspire, and mentor colleagues.
  • Excellent knowledge of design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines.
  • A deep understanding of space planning, ergonomics, and the principles of designing functional, interactive learning environments.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively while maintaining high design standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with senior management, contractors, and external clients.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with the latest trends in smart building design, sustainable architecture, and BIM (Building Information Modeling).
  • Previous experience working on training facilities or educational buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp, 3ds Max).
